Mother’s Day gift ideas

Mother’s Day comes around every May. We celebrate our mothers who have done so much for us every single day. This one special day is a celebration of our mothers and all that they have done for us. Not only  do we celebrate our mothers but also grandmothers and aunts. Both grandmothers and aunts hold special places in our hearts because they are our second mothers because they do so much for us and love us just as much as our own mothers.  Our son has had so many wonderful female role models that every one that is our friend is an aunt to him.  For Mother’s Day I made sure to honor the women that are there for him everyday like his godmother, aunt and grandmothers. I didn’t know what to get his grandmother and aunt because they are both mothers and a grandmother already. I wanted to get them something special that they can treasure.  Our sons godmother received flowers and chocolate strawberries.  Both his grandmothers received a frame. See the photo below.

Its a general frame for more than one grand child. I didn’t want anyone to feel upset because there are always going to be more than one grandchild in our family.  I placed a photo in the frame of our son and their grandmother to make it more personal.

For our sons aunt I also got a frame but it had sayings about what an aunt is. See the photo below.

It’s important to honor all the specia women that make our lives so much better. I hope this idea inspires you for a Mother’s Day gift idea.

Another 60th Birthday Basket Idea

Another 60th birthday has arrived in our family.  This is the second one of three.  It’s fun to come up with these ideas because every one is unique and special in every way.  For my husband’s uncle’s 60th birthday, we had to come up with 60 things but this time we had to help of my brother in law and his wife.  We only had to come up with 30 things and his brother picked up the other 30 things.   This is a good idea when you are planning on getting family members gifts.   As the years have gone we noticed various things that he liked: chocolate, cookies, cheeses, meats and sweets.   These were the things that we knew that his uncle would like.  So when the time came to pick up things for his 60th birthday, it was easy to get.   We used the same basket as the one that we used for my father’s 60th birthday because it was large and it fit some many different things.

We went on our way to pick up 30 things and so did my brother in law.  When it was time to come together to put it together, we noticed that we pretty much got his uncle the same things because we know him this well.   Here is a list of things that we placed in the 60th birthday basket:

  1. Chocolates– We got bars of chocolate with different flavors.  We also picked up Hershey kisses.
  2. Crackers– We picked up a few boxes of Keebler crackers as well as Wheat Thins.  We picked up the plain Keebler crackers.
  3. Cheeses– We picked up different cheeses. We know that he enjoys eating cheeses so we picked up a variety of them.
  4. Meats– We picked different meats like salami.  This way he was able to use the crackers, cheeses and meats and just munch on them.
  5. Cookies– We picked up a variety of cookies. Some of the cookies were: Chips Ahoy!, Oreo, Goldfish,…etc.
  6. Nuts– My brother in law picked up a variety of nuts. Some of the places that we picked up these items were: Target, Walmart and BJs.  It was great to see the look on his face when he received the basket.  See the photo below.  I hope this inspires you to create a basket for someone special in your life 🙂

6 months Birthday

Our baby boy turned 6 months old.  I still can’t believe that our baby boy is 6 months old.  These past 6 months have been full of adventures, challenged and sacrifices.  Working full time and breastfeeding have been challenging but it’s worth everything.  I am providing everything for our son so that our son has a great life and gets  to experience things that I didn’t.

These past 6 months I have learned to love another person more than life itself. My son has taught we all these lessons in just 6 months. One lesson which I learned is to cherish the small moments.  The small moments are the ones that we remember over the big moments. The small moments are the ones that teach us life lessons.  Every moment with our baby boy is special and adventurous.  I have learned to experience things in a new light.  I have loved every minute and moment with our son.   I love watching our son development into a toddler. He is reaching milestones and I love seeing them.  From doing tummy time, to reading books together to starting to sit up on his own. It’s amazing how a baby develops.  As an educator, I noticed and watch milestones of older children.  It’s so special to see milestones with our son because you don’t really notice how a child develops until you have your own.

For our son’s 6 month birthday, I had a baseball theme. It was hard to find things for 1/2 birthday.  I found one onesie on Amazon.com and it was baseball theme. My husband and I are huge Yankees fans.  I made a half baseball cake for my husband and I to eat.  We had a great time celebrating these past 6 months of our boy’s life. He has taught us many things and we can’t wait to see what our next adventure brings us with our son.

First Mother’s Day

A year ago I found out that I was pregnant with our son. It was the first Mother’s Day before having our son born. I kept thinking about what it’s going to be like to hold our child and love them unconditionally.  I also announced on social media that we were expecting a child and our first one in November. Below are three photos of how we announced that we were pregnant. I used a chalkboard to write a sweet message which I found on Pinterest.

This year I celebrated my first Mother’s Day with our son here. It was special for me because I got to spend the whole day with my son.  I ask reflected on the past 6 months with our son here with us.  It has been challenging being a full time working mom but it has been easy because our parents are helping us. My mom watches my son while I work 3 blocks away.  I am able to come to her house and feed our son. I get to see him and that’s all that matters to me. I have also sacrificed a lot for our son: sleep, spending every waking hour with him and being a full time mom. There are so many challenges and sacrifices but they are worth it because I am doing all that I can for our son.  I love our son and will do anything to make him grow into a wonderful young man. The past 6 months I have learned to love unconditionally.  My love for our son keeps growing every day. I am also learning to see things in a new light.  I’m experiencing things for the first time with our son. These moments are magical and exciting. I am always looking for new things to experience with our son. He is teaching me to be more patient.  Things happen when they happen and we just need to be patient and wait for the events to occur when they do. The past 6 months have been amazing and full of various adventures and I look forward to a lifetime of adventures with our son. I hope you all had a wonderful Mother’s Day with your special love.
