i love to travel to new places that I have never been too. Traveling the world allows you to experience life in a new way. I also love to take photographs to capture my travels.  They say “A picture tells a thousand words”, I will let you figure that out.  Everyone sees things differently and it is important to notice things that someone else might not.  As a teacher, I use photos to teach my students because it is important for them to notice things that I might even notice. I take many photographs and bring them into my classroom and educate my students so that they are able to notice the world around them. These photographs represent what I noticed in Tulum. The beauty of this ancient Mayan city is amazing. I wish that I had more time to explore this ancient city. Tulum is an ancient Mayan city in Mexico.  This ancient city lies on the coast unlike the other Mayan cities.  I was not able to take my eyes off the ocean and the beauty that lied there and still lies there. It was so peaceful to be away from my normal routine in New York City. My mind and body were at peace at this beautiful ancient Mayan city. The Mayans used this city as a port. They created this city that was surrounded and protected. The way in which they built this amazing city is astonishing.  In the city now, there is a turtle section in order for the turtles to mate. No human is allowed to go into this area because it will disturb the turtles. The Mayans long ago used this area to bring in supplies. The only people that knew about these secret path were the Mayan people.  It is amazing how well Mayans planned everything around them to feel protected and be protected. As we entered the ancient city, there was a narrow passage. The reason for this narrow passage was so that people were entering the city one by one. This allowed for the control of who entered.  Mayan people were very brilliant who created many of the things that we use today. Most importantly the calendar.  Yes, they stopped their calendar in the year 2012 but as the tour guide explained, the reason for the calendar stopping in the year 2012 was because it ended an era.  Thank you for taking the time to read my blog. Hope this post inspires you to visit the beautiful city of Tulum. DSC_0170 DSC_0188DSC_0212
